Is Facebook Killing Email Marketing?

Posted By Troy Dean on

I've been digging through our email statistics and the truth is, most people on our mailing list are not engaging with the weekly WordPress Wednesday newsletter we've been publishing.

And when I say "engaging", I mean opening the email or clicking on links. That's right, our open rates and click through rates are not what they used to be.

Our open rate for 2017 is 16.85%, which is well below the industry benchmark for Media and Publishing of 22.14% and our click through rate is 2.5% versus 4.7% for our peers.

This makes me sad.

Our team puts a lot of effort into the weekly newsletter and it seems like it's not what you want. So, instead of getting all teary about it, I'd like your help to produce more of the stuff you want and less of the stuff you don't.

I want us to produce useful, helpful content that you want to engage with and share. So let's talk about video for a second.

Is Online Video Better Than Email Newsletters?

We all love making videos here and we know that video is the most entertaining and engaging format of media on the internet.

The thing is, we're torn between publishing our videos as Facebook Live videos or as video blogs. They both have their pros and cons.

So you decide: watch this short video above and then vote below to let us know what kind of content you want to see.

Choose your own adventure by clicking and voting now - and leave us a comment and tell us what format of content you prefer and why.

Oh - and if there are no buttons below, that means you've already voted - cool huh? Check out this cool dynamic call to action tool to learn how we're doing this.

Thanks for being a part of the conversation.

UPDATE: Voting has closed and Facebook Live won.

However, we are going to do our best to give you all what you want, where you want it. So we'll be live streaming regularly on our Facebook page as well as Periscope and SnapChat and InstaStories and MySpace.

I'm kidding.

We'll be live streaming on Facebook and posting videos to our blog on a regular basis. We'll also be emailing you with cool articles.

Now go elevate!
