Number forty-seven: Refuse to launch on friday
Good day, I'm Troy Dean from Video User Manuals and WP Elevation and this is the 101 Ways to Elevate Yourself and Demand Higher Fees: a practical guide for WordPress consultants to start attracting better quality clients, work on better, more interesting projects and get paid better fees. Now, let's go elevate.
Number 47: Refuse to launch anything on a Friday. We've been burnt several times by launching something on a Friday and then going off and having what we think is going to be a peaceful, relaxing weekend until we realize that something crashes and you start getting e-mails, phone calls, and text messages on a Saturday afternoon, or worse Sunday morning because something has gone down.
We now just refused to launch on Friday, so for clients talking about launch dates on a Friday we will say, "Well, hang on. We don't launch anything on a Friday, and here's why, because we're not going to be around on the weekend to support it if something happens. So let's do a soft launch of this on Tuesday, put it through it's paces for a couple of days, and then you can do your big media launch if you like on a Friday. But we're going to launch it a few days early to debug it and make sure it all works."
Another thing that I like about this is that it only differentiates you from the pack by saying, "We just refuse to launch anything on a Friday because our experience tells us that that's dangerous." So that shows that you've got experience even if you haven't. It's okay to give that perception that you have got experience that launching things on a Friday is a bad idea. So idea number 47 here is: refuse to launch anything on a Friday.
In the next video, I'm going to explain the concept of a client champion. Until then, go elevate. Make sure you subscribe the 101 ways podcast in the iTunes store. Just search for 101 ways to elevate or visit us at wp101ways.com and download the free 101 ways ebook.
