101 Ways to Elevate – #4 Ask Why

Number four. Ask Why.

Good Day I'm Troy Dean from Video User Manuals and Agency Mavericks and this is the 101 Ways to Elevate Yourself and Demand Higher Fees. A practical guide for WordPress consultants to start attracting better quality clients, work on better more interesting projects and get paid better fees. Now, let's go elevate.

Number four. Ask Why.

So in the previous episode I mentioned that asking better quality questions is a way of elevating yourself above the pack and I believe the best quality question you can ask a potential new client is ‘Why?' Why are we doing this? I remember when I started asking this question I felt a little bit awkward and the client that I asked this question was little bit taken aback but revealed to me in the weeks after that, that it was the best question that they've been asked because it really forced them to think about why it is they needed a new website. Now in this particular case, they needed to generate some new leads into their business. They needed to generate some new clients and the website helped them do that but what I wanted to find out was why they thought they needed a website. What was the problem that they were trying to solve?

So, some of the questions you can ask is ‘Why from a business point of view do you need a new website?' or ‘Do you need me to redesign your existing website?' What are the problems that the business is trying to solve by designing a new website or redesigning your existing website and think about your target audience, why do they need you to have a new website? What is it that your current website is not doing for them? What problem is your current website not solving for them? Are you answering the same questions over and over again on the phone? Okay maybe we can think about a frequently asked questions page. Are you not positioned in the marketplace as a thought leader? Maybe we can think about a blog? Are you asking the same questions over and over again about class time tables? What problem are you trying to solve for the target audience and why do you think a new website is going to help you solve that problem. So the more you can ask why the more you'll learn about your potential new client's project and that's going to serve you really well later on when you start writing proposals.

In the next episode, I'm going to reveal to you some more of these high quality questions that you can start asking so that you can better match what it is you deliver to your client's expectations.
